Episode 31 – Collin Henderson

In this episode I had the opportunity to sit down with my personal mental conditioning coach and really special friend Collin Henderson. Colin succeeded as a two sport athlete at Washington State University and on the outside looked very accomplished, but his internal anxiety was high and his early issues with stuttering left his self confidence dwindling. Driven by a sincere desire to overcome these issues and help others he dug into mental performance and mindset and launchd an entire career. Collin is the founder and CEO of Master Your Mindset, LLC, an industry leader in the field of mental conditioning. He is a speaker and author of five books dealing with peak performance. Aside from creating his own peak performance consulting company he is also a frequent mental conditioning contributor with Russell Wilson’s company, Limitless Minds, where they take competitive thinking from sports, to the corporate workspace. He believes that the mind is our most powerful tool, but often under trained. With the right coaching, skills like confidence, motivation, focus, resilience, elite communication, influence, creativity, courage, and consistency all can be trained.

Episode 30 – Mary Lou Liucci-Smith

My name is Mary Lou Smith. I am a seventy-nine-year old survivor of domestic violence. I left my abusive marriage on August 21, 2005 at the age of sixty-five. I have worked very hard over the last fourteen years to resurrect myself from the ashes of domestic violence. I almost ended my life the day before I left, to stop the pain of my abuser. When I told my ex-husband how desperate I was, and that I had attempted suicide, he went and got a gun and said, “I’ll show you how to put a gun to your head and be successful committing suicide.”

I can still hear the cylinders spinning. I didn’t leave until the next day. If fact, we went to the movies and to 5:30 mass that afternoon.

Insanity!

My ex-husband had his doctorate and was a professor in a graduate program. He was well respected by his students, colleagues, and the community.

Neither family nor friends suspected there was abuse going on in our house. Every one was surprised and shocked that “the perfect Smith’s weren’t perfect.” My dream is to help one person, I may never meet, leave an abusive relationship.

I am the voice for those still living with abuse. I do not list what I have done for recognition but to share where my journey out of domestic violence has taken me. I have been the keynote speaker at the Family Crisis Gala (now, “Through These Doors”), have numerous editorials published in the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, spoken to dental students at University of New England Dental School two years in a row, as well as to church, community, and women’s groups, and having spoken and participated in a panel discussion at the Southern Maine Harm Reduction Conference at the University of New England last fall. I was chosen as one of eleven participants around the US to be interviewed and be a part of a video series by National Clearing House for Abuse in Later Life’s video project, “Lifting Up the Voices of Older Survivors,” which will be posted on the Department of Justice’s website this month.

My story is ageless and timeless.

This episode is very special and personal as I sit down with my very close friend and personal trainer, Ryan Hogan, to talk about his journey, our journey and the lessons we have learned. For as long as he can remember, the human body has always fascinated him. How it moves, how it adapts, how it changes and how it performs. Episode 24 – Wes Geer

On this week’s episode I sit down and learn a ton from famed musician and member of the incredible bands Hed P.E. and Korn, Wes Geer. Wes has such an inspiring story of overcoming addiction and using his god given musical gifts to inspire and help others others in recovery. He cracks the code on true peace and gets real about the false narrative around creativity and getting high. I love this episode.

Wesley Geer has been a professional musician for over 20 years. He first found success as the founding member of Jive Records artist Hed P.E. as guitarist, songwriter and producer. After touring the world for eight years, Wes left the band for a lifestyle change and ultimately landed in rehab. Then in 2010, at almost three years sober, he was approached to play with the legendary band Korn. He joined Korn and worked with them as their touring guitarist for the next several years, traveling to 42 countries, headlining shows, playing to crowds of 80,000 people, and appearing on a number of recordings and cable and TV shows. His music has been featured in many feature films, video games, radio, and television shows. His new band, HU3M3N is dropping ‘ARTIFICIAL’ on all major platforms on Friday, June 4th.

Wes also has long had a passion for teaching music. Previously a music teacher at The Fusion Academy’s Huntington Beach campus, Wes taught Recording Arts, Drums, and Guitar.

Wes is also the founder of Rock to Recovery. Rock to Recovery helps people heal and transform their lives through the powerful experience of writing, playing, and performing music as a group. Part of the weekly program curriculum of more than 100 treatment centers in California, Oregon, and Tennessee. Serving veterans and their families nationally and internationally through the Air Force Wounded Warrior (AFW2) program. Rock to Recovery has 13 full-time program administrators delivering more than 500 sessions each month. They work with more than 4,000 people each month and have written more than 10,000 songs with people in treatment.
